Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)
A federal institution that insures bank deposits up to certain limits. Ordinary checking and savings accounts and certificates of deposit are insured by the FDIC up to $100,000 at a single bank, while mutual funds, including money market funds, are not insured by the FDIC.
